Admission/Readmission

Policy for Assignment of Credit Hours

The policy and procedure BridgeValley adheres to for the assignment of credit hours is the Carnegie definition.  Academic advancement by each student is measured in terms of semester hours.  To earn one semester hour, the student must complete the equivalency of a 50 minute lecture (one clock hour) and a minimum of two hours of out-of-class work each week in a semester.  For laboratory credit of one semester hour, the student attends two or three clock hours per week.  More information about credit hours may be found in the college catalog (http://catalog.bridgevalley.edu/content.php?catoid=19&navoid=333)

Privacy of Student Records − Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)

The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) allows present and future students to have access to their individual educational records, provides basic protections of privacy of their records, and allows them to request that certain “directory information” be kept confidential. West Virginia Higher Education Report Card

West Virginia Code §18B-1D-8 statutorily mandates the West Virginia Higher Education Report Card (Report Card).  This annual accountability report provides year-end higher education statistics for both of the state’s higher education systems, the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission (Commission) and West Virginia Council for Community and Technical College Education (Council).  Many of the enrollment, retention, graduation, and financial aid statistics found throughout this publication are reflective of the individual master plans approved by the Commission (Leading the Way: Access.  Success.  Impact.  2013-2018) and the Council (Fulfilling the Vision 2015-2020). Copyright Infringement − Policies and Sanctions

BridgeValley Community & Technical College complies with U.S. copyright law, which prohibits unauthorized duplication and use of copyrighted materials, including written, audio-visual, and computer software materials. Voter Registration

Student Financial Assistance

Federal Student Financial Aid Penalties for Drug Law Violations

A conviction for any offense, during a period of enrollment for which a student was receiving Title IV, HEA Program (federal) funds, under any federal law involving the possession or sale of illegal drugs will result in the loss of eligibility for any Title IV, HEA grant, loan or work-study assistance (HEA Sec. 484(r)(1)); (20 U.S.C. 1091(r)(1)).

National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS)

Federal student loan records of students and parents will be submitted to the National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS), and will be accessible by guaranty agencies, lenders, and institutions determined to be authorized users of the data system.
