MAY 2022 COMMENCEMENT
BridgeValley's May 2022 Commencement Ceremony will take place at the Charleston Coliseum and Convention Center (formerly the Charleston Civic Center) on Sunday, May 15 at 2:00PM. Students participating in the Commencement Ceremony must arrive by 1:00PM and follow the appropriate signage to the preparation area. Faculty must arrive by 1:30PM for line up.

Guests must enter through the entrance opposite the Charleston Town Center Mall. Ushers will be available and guests may take their seats upon arrival. Guests in need of accessibility accommodations may contact the Charleston Civic Center by calling 304-345-1500.

NOTE: The BridgeValley Veteran Club will be selling flower bouquets at Commencement. All proceeds go to the BridgeValley Veteran Club.

DIRECTIONS TO THE CHARLESTON COLISEUM AND CONVENTION CENTER
Convenient parking is available within the Charleston Coliseum and Convention Center parking garage at the rate of $5.00 per vehicle and within the Charleston Town Center Mall’s Lee Street and Quarrier Street parking garages at the rate of $1.75 per vehicle.

Commencement is a ceremonial event and is not an official indication of degree completion. Degree completion is recorded on official academic transcripts.

 

GRADUATION CERTIFICATION, DIPLOMAS AND OFFICIAL TRANSCRIPTS
The Office of the Registrar strives to certify graduates, print diplomas, and mail diplomas on or before the dates listed below:

  • Fall diplomas will be mailed between February 1-15
  • Spring diplomas will be mailed between July 1-15
  • Summer diplomas will be mailed between September 1-15

The credential certification process begins during the week final grades are reported. The certification process requires individual evaluation of each graduation application and typically takes around a month to complete. Your credential may be certified at any time during this process. If an award date is present on your unofficial transcript within MyBridge and you have no outstanding obligations to BridgeValley, you are clear to request an official transcript through the National Student Clearinghouse at www.GetMyTranscript.com.

Diplomas are ceremonial documents and are meant for display purposes only. Official transcripts and National Student Clearinghouse degree verification are the only official means of confirming credential status.

 

REQUIREMENTS FOR GRADUATION
NOTE: A formal application for graduation must be submitted by the date published in the academic calendar.

Candidates for graduation from a specific major will be evaluated based on the catalog which was in effect at the time they declared the major unless one of the following is true:

  • A student interrupts his/her study for two consecutive semesters excluding the summer term (readmitted students will be placed in the effective catalog at a the time of readmission)

  • A student elected to move to newer catalog at the time it was in effect

  • A student meets the requirements of the catalog in effect at the time of graduation

Degree requirements vary from program to program. The minimum semester hour requirement for an Associate degree is 60. The student is responsible for completing all program requirements. If a substitution or waiver is recommended by the academic advisor and is approved by the Chief Academic Officer, the approval must be on record in the Office of the Registrar before the substitution or waiver is in effect. Candidates for graduation taking courses under transient student status must ensure a transcript is received in the Office of the Registrar no later than ten (10) calendar days after the Commencement date. Transfer students must meet the residency requirements of the program. If you have any questions or concerns regarding specific program requirements, please contact your academic advisor.
 

Graduation requirements for associate degrees from BridgeValley Community and Technical College includes the following:

  1. Minimum of 60 earned credit hours, with a minimum of fifteen credit hours taken in residence at BridgeValley

  2. An overall 2.0 cumulative grade point average

  3. An overall 2.0 institutional grade point average

  4. An overall 2.0 grade point average in the student’s major field as outlined in the college catalog

  5. Completion of all program specific requirements as outlined in the catalog

  6. Completion of all required assessments as outlined in the catalog

  7. Fulfilment of all obligations to the college

 

Graduation requirements for certificate programs from BridgeValley Community and Technical College includes the following:

  1. Minimum of 30 earned credit hours, with a minimum of eight credit hours taken in residence at BridgeValley

  2. Completion of all program specific requirements as outlined in the catalog

  3. Completion of all required assessments as outlined in the catalog

  4. Fulfilment of all obligations to the college
