Patient Care Technician Program

The 5-week Patient Care Technician program will prepare students for immediate employment at Thomas Health and open doors to many rewarding career paths in the healthcare industry. Classes will be offered on BridgeValley’s South Charleston campus with clinical experience at Thomas Health.

Orientation is February 18, 2022. Class will meet on BridgeValley’s South Charleston campus on Mondays and Fridays from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm. Beginning February 21, 2022. Additional classes coming Summer 2022!

What is a Patient Care Technician?

A patient care technician is a healthcare technician working under the supervision of a nurse, doctor, or other health professional to administer basic care to patients in hospitals, doctor’s offices, and residential living facilities.

Training topics will include:

  • Assisting licensed personnel to deliver patient care.
  • Performing basic nursing and personal care skills and restorative services.
  • Professionally communicating and interacting with patients, families and members of the healthcare team.
  • Maintaining patient’s rights.
  • Performing basic clerical responsibilities and non-patient care activities to ensure efficient operation of the unit.
